This particular P-38 was built in 1944 and later converted to racing configuration, named “White Lightnin’”, by Marvin "Lefty" Gardner, becoming an air race legend between 1947.

We take a special look onboard C-53 Skytrooper “The Yacht Club” with Nick Kanakis from Aerometal International. Built in Santa Monica, California as a DC-3 the aircraft was converted into a C-53 Skytrooper being pressed into service for the US Army Air Forces during the Second World War. The airframe has an illustrious history spanning from North Africa and the landings in Sicily to Operation Market Garden and the Siege of Bastogne. now carrying the name “The Yacht Club” after the nickname of the 62nd Troop Carrier Squadron in which it served.
